CAÑO BOCÓN - COLOMBIA

Trip Introduction

Untamed Adventure Awaits: Unlocking Monster Fish in the Caño Bocón

Imagine this: a rustic camp nestled amidst the shade of towering jungle trees, right on the banks of the Caño Bocón River. This isn't just any fishing trip; it's an expedition into the heart of a pristine blackwater fishery, teeming with huge legendary fish waiting to be challenged.

Home to Giants: We offer exclusive access to some of the best Giant Peacock Bass, Payara, and Jatuarana fishing in all of South America. These are trophy fish that will test your skills and leave you breathless. With crystal-clear water, we believe this hidden gem could even produce the next world record Peacock Bass! It holds the largest Peacock Bass in all Colombia.

Prime Time for Epic Battles: The Caño Bocón undergoes a fascinating transformation. As November arrives, water levels drop rapidly, causing the flooded jungle to recede. This creates the perfect conditions for targeting trophy fish. From December to the end of March, the river reveals its secrets, making these elusive giants easier to locate and battle.

Are you ready for an unforgettable adventure? Book your fishing expedition at our rustic Caño Bocón camp and experience the thrill of battling some of South America's most legendary fish!

The Fishing

Caño Bocón: Where Giants Roam the Blackwater

  • Giant Peacock Bass: Here’s your chance to battle true giants! We regularly see Peacock Bass exceeding 20 pounds, with the camp record a staggering 29 pounds. The acidic blackwater creates a perfect environment for their incredible growth. We guarantee this water holds the largest Peacock Bass in all of Colombia.
  • Beyond Peacock Bass: The excitement doesn’t stop there. Target ferocious Payara/Vampire Fish reaching 30 pounds, acrobatic Bocón/Jatuarana, Surubim catfish, and much more. This is a true fisherman’s paradise!

Prime Conditions for Trophy Hunting:

The Caño Bocón’s unique ecosystem provides the ideal habitat for trophy fish. The river meanders through the Puinave Indian Reserve, showcasing a breathtaking blend of rainforest, savannah landscapes, blackwater lagoons, and flowing streams. Forget about catching large numbers of fish – this is about quality over quantity. Get ready to battle true giants!

A Festival of Fishing Techniques:

The variety of fish species translates to a diverse range of fishing techniques you can employ. Experience the thrill of topwater action as you target Giant Peacock Bass with surface lures like prop baits, poppers, and stick baits. For subsurface battles, employ minnow/jerk baits, glidebaits, bucktail jigs, spinnerbaits and even flies.

Payara, Bocón, and the Challenge They Bring:

Payara offer an additional layer of excitement. They’ll readily attack minnow baits, flies, and jigs, sometimes even exploding on topwater lures. The Bocón/Yatouarana/Yamu, will test your casting skills in the faster currents around steep banks and under overhanging trees. Use small poppers, spoons, spinners, or flies to entice these truly acrobatic fighters.
