For the first four days, you will be fishing out of Bella Vista for Dorado, Pati, Pacu and Giant Short-Tailed Stingrays. You may also hook up to some Surubi Cats (both Spotted and Striped), Piranha, Sabalo, Boga and even Manguruyu/Jau Cats. While you are fishing, you should also see plenty of wildlife including Howler Monkeys, Capybara, Jacare Caimen, Roseate Spoonbill, Black Skimmer, Jabiru Stork and much more.
Bella Vista is a relatively prosperous town of 30,000 inhabitants, of mostly Italian descent, with a picturesque riverfront promenade and plenty of bars and restaurants. You will be staying at the Hotel Rio Arriba, which also has an excellent restaurant attached.
Early evening of Day 5, we will transfer to Ita Ibate, a small town on the bank of the Rio Parana, for a further four full days fishing for Dorado, Surubi and Manguruyu.
Fishing will be between Ita Ibate and Paso de la Patria (at the confluence of the Paraguay and Parana Rivers). During the day large schools of good sized Golden Dorado patrol these waters and are followed by smaller schools of Spotted Surubi, who feed on the left overs from the Dorado. Surubi have a peculiar habit of stunning their prey with their tails and a lot of the fish caught can be foul hooked because of this.
And at night, you can fish some of the deeper holes with live bait for two species of Surubi and Manguruyu/Jau Cats, which has now recovered from near extinction, to producing sizable fish.
